Fan Mail

Hello all!

Here's some peaceful music for your hearing pleasure. This is what I often listen to while writing, washing dishes, walking the dog, plotting world domination, and other various pursuits. Erik Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 is the stuff of dreams.

To add,

I've received more (you guessed it) FAN MAIL! I changed pronouns for sake of privacy, but it remains otherwise unaltered.

Hello Kay!

My name is Amy Cadmen and I work with your Mom at the City of                . Ever since she told a group of us how you had written a book [after we were giving one of our co-workers a hard time about not publishing a book written years ago about an event that happened over 20 years ago!], I told her that I would love to read your book.

Months had passed and I had forgotten my request when your Mom appeared in my office doorway with your book in hand and said it was mine if I was still interested in purchasing a copy. Absolutely! And I was quick to turn over the cash and start reading ... at first during lunch time breaks until I could stand it no longer. I took the book home over this last weekend and easily finished it by Sunday afternoon.

What a delight! You are a gifted writer. I thoroughly enjoyed your novel. It was well researched, characters were identifiable and relatable, the story within the story within the story is thought provoking and bizarrely entertaining. What a blast I had in conjuring up all the characters in my mind's eyes with the very vividly described scenes and activities you described in their journeys!

I understand that you have begun research for your next novel. I encourage you to continue writing and sharing with the world your gift of storytelling.

Appreciating you! And wishing you God speed!

Your newest fan club member,

Amy

Mutant Message Down Under - Marlo Morgan

Hey all!

Hope everything is good in the neighborhood. I've been steady writing my next book, tying tiny pieces and paragraphs together, and I have a really good feeling about this one. Really. For real. Unfortunately, one of my issues is that I meticulously design the book cover before I've even finished five chapters. Talk about foresight.

Anyways.

I was commissioned to write a piece about Mutant Message Down Under by Marlo Morgan. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who can read with a stake in the future of the world as a whole. I'm not saying it's life changing, but it's at least eye opening.

The review is on the link below. Enjoy.

Active Child - 1999

Hello all!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic spring break. It's pretty dreary and cloudy down here in the Sunshine State, but I like to think its been a productive week.

I started research, fact gathering and basic conceptualizing for my latest novel (trust me, it's as arduous and painful as it sounds), and began fleshing out the skeleton of the plot. I'm gonna keep it a tip-top secret for now, but it's going to be a far cry from The Big Five.

This new idea is a bit more romantic, a bit lighter and cuter. A bit more Young Adult Fiction-y.
Now, don't panic, I'll still have the typical Kay Elle sass and hysteria (clever, right?) from The Big Five, but it will be concentrated into a quirky first person/second person commentary of modern love.

I think.

Just get excited. I know I am.

The above video is the writing soundtrack for the new piece. I keep this tune on repeat.

Enjoy.

Love,
KL

Keeper of the Dream

I wrote a little piece about MLK for a scholarship a little while back, and I like it so much I figure I might as well share it here. Link's at the bottom of the post.

Enjoy.

Lax Life

Just in case you all weren't totally convinced of how much of a gangster I am, here's some solid proof...

I've been playing Varsity Lacrosse for about three years now. I'm a defender, so it's not often I get the ball actually in my stick, but when I do, boy-oh-boy, I run like a bat outta hell. You can tell just by the sheer concentration on my face.

Much love,

Sold Out!

There was such an amazing turnout at the book signing on Sunday. I'm so thankful to have such a supportive church home that will prop up their youth, you know?
There was cake, punch, big smiles and hugs. I was proud my hand didn't start cramping up after the 40th book. I'm even prouder that I managed to look like I knew what I was doing the entire time (channeling my inner Claire Underwood).

I just gotta keep chugging forward. Promotion is the name of the game, now.

You too can own a copy of The Big Five, by moi.
The side bar should allow for several different links to several different avenues of purchase.

Much Love,
KL

Temple of the Universe and Talks with M. Singer

Hey All,

Hope everyone is having a lovely week. It's National Sleep Week, if you didn't know. I've been particularly well rested, but I'm not sure if it's because it's Sleep Week or if it's some sort of quirky self fulfilling prophecy.

Either way.

There was an independent learning unit in my Humanities class, and if we dove into the world of culture and personal enrichment (and wrote a well worded 4 page paper about the experience), we would be rewarded with monetary compensation.

Well, I'm all about the $$$ and being exposed to new perspectives (not in that order), so I signed on.

One of the options was to go to a service at the Temple of the Universe, a sort of new world church ran by Michael Singer. He's kind of the Albert Einstein of spiritual enlightenment, and he's written several books and CDs.

This guy has even met with Oprah. THE Oprah. So he must know his stuff, right?

Anyways, below is my report on the session, and I earned a cool $50 for doing something that I love. How often can the average American seriously say that?

Hope you enjoy and sweet dreams.

Love,
KL

Book Signings and Fan Mail

Hi all,

Exciting news!
I'm going to have a book signing at my church on Sunday, so hopefully I'll sell out of my onhand stock. I think it's kind of funny considering the content matter of The Big Five, which is so contrary to most conservative religious views, but hey, should be a fun time. :)

Not only that but another person chugged through The Big Five in a matter of days, saying she couldn't put it down, it was so intense, and she just adored the characters ect. ect.

She loved it so much she even sent me an email.

Kites: A Study In Air, Light, and Weight

Another creation of mine, cut from fashion prints and magazines.
No joke, pretty much my life right now.
Fun, whimsical. A little terrifying.
Gotta learn to enjoy the ride, right?

Betcha didn't guess I was an author and an artist.

Reader Reviews

Hello world!
Hopefully the beginning of the week was as great for you as it was for me.
Unless you're a Seahawks fan...
And then you're probably a little deflated...

Superbowl puns aside, I have news of (pause for dramatic tension) READER REVIEWS!!!

Yes, I had several people tell me that they picked up The Big Five on Saturday and couldn't put it down until they finished it that evening. I'm talking I forgot to eat because it was just that good type reviews.

One reader even said that The Big Five is now her second favorite book. Ever. One behind Ender's Game and one ahead of The Odyssey. Take that Homer!

I can't even fully articulate how extremely gratifying it is to know that ordinary people can connect with my characters/story/idea without me standing over their shoulder, explaining what I mean.

The Big Five lives and breathes on its own. It speaks for itself. And people like it.
And I know you will too. Buy it here.

1.) Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
2.) The Big Five by Kay Elle
3.) The Odyssey by Homer

140 characters is less than I'm used to working with, but I'm fairly certain my brilliance will shine through even without a whole book to do it.

Fan Mail

I recieved my first author fanmail for The Big Five on yesterday.
Yep, that's right.
I'm official.

"Can I just say that in the first 25 pages of your book my heart was racing and in a cold sweat [sic]. I can't wait to read more about Amar & Horatio! - With love ------
P.S. should make it a movie and/or audible book :)"
25 copies sold and that much closer to a movie deal.
As always, I'm selling books here.

Love ya,
KL

Winter Formals and Famous People

So.
BIG NEWS!
I went to a high school dance last night.
I typically go to these social functions for the sake of watching teenagers in strange clothing do what they do best: wiggle and convulse. (Believe it or not, I'm a fantastic dancer.)

Not as much grinding as last time, so that's always a plus, right?

My friends and I have made it a tradition to stop by the local Waffle House for chocolate chip pancakes and people watching at 1 AM. The world gets strange at Waffle O'clock.

EVEN BIGGER NEWS!

I met with author ReShonda Billingsley from Brown Girls Publishing at the local library to get some tips of the trade.

I was sweating bullets. Here was this charismatic, friendly authoress giving a Q&A about everything that I want to do in life: movie deals, Bestseller, well-traveled.

And she bought a copy of  MY book.
How insane is that?
Mrs. Billingsley even gave me more than I was selling TBF for and was like "Keep the change."

It's these seemingly small human connections that allow for the grandest of chances.

You can buy my latest novel The Big Five here if that tickles your fancy. Or feel free to email me about wiggling, convulsing, writing, pandering, or other various pursuits.

FIRSTS

Well, here we are.
No followers. Zero fan base. And fifty-four views.
All of which are mine.

That's fine though. As the old folks say: I ain't stressin'.
This gives me something to work with.
So when I'm rich and famous, I can point to where it all started.
Right here.
With you.
Ain't that something.

Anyways.
I wrote a book called The Big Five. Which is the reason why I started this blog.
500 pages of awesome. Literally (hah.)

I'd sure 'ppreciate it if you bought it here.
It's sort of a hip, indie grassroots movement. Or whatever.

Thanks loves,
KL
